Lightworker Ascension has had the privilege and good fortune to be a vendor at several Holistic Fairs the past few months. A Holistic Fair can be quite different from a Metaphysical Fair because Holistic Fairs attract many people who do not know they have had Spirit Animals since birth. Some people do not yet realize they have Angels and other Guides with them since birth. We (mainly Lyn) decided to write an introduction to metaphysics to provide some foundational understanding so anyone can begin to access the wealth of guides and unconditional love that is available to everyone.
In this article we list just the most well-known metaphysical practices, those you are most likely to find at Metaphysical Fairs or online for a low cost that have very little risk. There are dozens more we could introduce here, but this is a good start for now.
As always, with any information, use your experience and intuition to filter what you read and how information aligns with your cultural and spiritual background. We feel most metaphysicians will agree with the information here, but take a look around other enriching sites.
Introduction to Metaphysics
Step into the world of metaphysics as if you are taking steps into a world of discovery, an exploration that takes us beyond the ordinary into the fundamental principles shaping reality, existence, and consciousness. Derived from the Greek words “meta” (beyond) and “physika” (physics), metaphysics transcends the empirical study of the physical world, venturing into unseen, transcendent, and mystical realms.
In this introduction, metaphysics is a gateway to New Age beliefs and practices associated with information, guidance, and healing from realms beyond our immediate perception. Think divination, spirit guides, energy fields, vibrations, angels, ascended masters, shamanism, and even a sprinkle of magic and the occult.
Why are people drawn to metaphysical or New Age practices? Usually it’s a personal quest, a yearning for growth, healing, and a connection to guides and angels. It’s about peeling back the layers of life itself for a deeper exploration of the soul’s dance between the tangible and the spiritual. Consider metaphysical practices as tools, your companions on a journey bridging the gap between your conscious self and your soul, between you and the spirit realm.
As you embark on a metaphysical adventure, know that people approach metaphysics for various reasons. Some seek to elevate their consciousness, embracing a more spiritual existence, while others find solace and healing for deep emotional wounds, especially when traditional approaches fell short. This article is tailored for the Seeker—the one wanting to be on a more spiritual path. Perhaps, in the diverse landscape of metaphysics, you’ll find elements that resonate.
For this article, we focus on the essence of a few metaphysical practices and why many seek services from practitioner. We narrow this down to two main benefits: information and healing.

Metaphysics Versus the Occult
Let’s unravel a few mysteries of metaphysics by discussing the difference between metaphysics and the occult, two terms often intertwined but with distinctive connotations. A brief examination into the roots of ‘metaphysics’ and ‘occult’ through the lens of etymology shows a subtle overlap: ‘meta,’ signaling the beyond in metaphysics, and ‘occult,’ a nod to the hidden. Both terms refer us to something beyond the ordinary, stepping into realms slightly off the beaten path for most people.
The allure of occult practices lies in their mysterious, mystical, and sometimes magical nature. Metaphysics delves into the realm of unseen forces—vibrations, Spirit Guides, and otherworldly insights. It’s the subtle dance between what’s hidden and what vibrates beyond our immediate senses.
For our purposes here, let’s blur the lines a bit. Think of occult practices as a subset of metaphysics, cozying up with tools like the Tarot. Magic, too, fits under the metaphysical umbrella, representing those moments that defy our everyday understanding, adding a touch of wonder and hope to our lives.
Now, onto the dynamic duo of ‘religion’ and ‘spirituality.’ For many, their religion is the heartbeat of their spirituality, intertwined and inseparable. But, there’s a vibrant tribe of spiritual seekers who prefer charting their course free from formal religious ties. Here, we’re not here to split hairs between the two or pass judgment on personal beliefs. Our compass points towards positivity and love, steering clear of judgment, oppression, and anything that hinders the soul’s beautiful journey back to its spiritual roots.
In this exploration, let curiosity be your guide, and let’s navigate metaphysics and the occult with open minds and open hearts.

A Few Metaphysical Tenets
- Unity from One Divine Source
- Every living being, from the towering trees to the steadfast rocks, is from the same Divine source. It’s a reminder that we’re all threads in the same cosmic fabric.
- Oneness through Creation
- United by a shared origin. Call it Spirit, Mother Father God, or the One Source, we are intricately connected. The essence here is recognizing our shared divine heritage, transcending boundaries that often seem to separate us.
- The Triumph of Love
- At the core of all existence is the universal truth of Love. While hate and negative judgments may cast shadows, they’re ultimately distortions of this fundamental force. We are called to see beyond our everyday struggles and issues and grasp the ever-present Love that binds us.
- The Illusion of Time
- Past and future melt away in the face of a metaphysical truth: only the present moment exists. Learn to practice embracing just the now, recognize that the past is a memory, and the future is but a shimmering possibility.
- Creative Power of Thought
- Manifestation is where metaphysics meets the canvas of reality. Our thoughts, fueled by the expression of free will, paint the landscape of our experiences. The e brush is in our hands, and the palette is endless.
- Expanding Spiritual Consciousness
- Like a blossoming flower, spiritual consciousness is not static. It evolves and expands. And the beautiful part? It’s accessible to everyone. A connection to the divine, however you perceive it, is an ever-present gift waiting to be unwrapped.
- Guidance from Beyond
- In the unseen realms, we find allies. Spirit Guides, from Angels to Ascended Masters and Spirit Animals, are our companions on this journey. They guide and protect, ready to lend a helping hand, without judgment.
- The Power of Asking:
- Need a nudge in the right direction? Seeking assistance from Spirit Animals, Guides, or Ascended Masters is as simple as asking. It’s an open line, a cosmic hotline waiting for your call.
Embarking on Metaphysical Healing
It often helps people to segment or group complex ideas into categories so we grouped metaphysical practices into healing practices and information practices. Many practices overlap into both healing and information. Often an energy healer receives ‘messages’ from your guides. You may get information from an astrologer that is very healing. Working with the Akash is usually both informative and healing. But for this introduction, we now describe metaphysical or occult practices that are more likely to be more for healing that gleaning information.

Although some types of energy healing can heal the body; it is rare for an energy healer to state this because of potential legal liability. You often see a caveat from professional energy healers that nothing they provide should be taken as medical advice or replace a medical professional’s involvement. We say the same thing on LightworkerAscension.com. But don’t let that disclaimer dissuade you from seeing an energy healer. Many can heal the body. As with anything, use your judgment, be careful of promises and hype. Pobably start small, with a short session, then if you feel better, perhaps another longer session.
One example of energy healing is to meet with a Reiki, crystal (described below) or other self-described energy healer in their energy room. Often they have a massage table that you lay on fully clothed while they call in energy for you. They may place their hands over different parts of your body to try to determine where there is stuck energy and then focus on that area. Or they may just send energy to your body from your feet and head and let the energy go where it needs to go. This may sound a bit woowoo, believing that energy knows where to go, but it knows exactly where to go when you are open to heal. So intention is very important (e.g. the intention to heal) and being open to receive is important.

Energy Healing: Illuminating the Path to Wellness
Energy healing stands as a beacon within metaphysical practices, embracing various modalities such as Reiki, Quantum Touch, crystal healing, and more. Imagine an energy room adorned with healing light, stones, high vibrations, and the strong presence of Spirit Animals and Spirit Guides. Here, practitioners channel or transform energy to balance the body’s energy fields, fostering physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
The healing potential of energy work is vast, encompassing the body, mind, relationships, pets, and even the planet. Energy healing is a dance of intention and openness, where the recipient’s vibrational alignment plays a crucial role in the effectiveness of the healing.
Whether in person or remote, energy healing transcends time and space. You might find local Reiki or energy healing groups on Meetup.com, offering accessible opportunities to explore this transformative practice. Or you can arrange to have a healing for you or your cat from someone in Tokyo, and it could be just as powerful as if the healer was in the same room with you.

We also view Imagination as the greatest vibrational and energy healing technique. Although the team behind LightworkerAscension.com have learned and worked with a variety of healing and shamanic techniques, we are more and more focused on seeing everyone and everything in their Perfection. We will talk more about this practice in another article.
Crystal Healing: Unveiling the Power of Stones
Crystal healing is another facet of energy healing, because it uses the energy and vibration from stones. Crystals, gemstones, and rocks are used to balance and enhance energy. Different types of crystals have unique properties that can influence various aspects of your body and energy fields. Crystal healing can take place on a massage table as describe above in the Energy Healing section, and it can be done remotely. Your crystal healing practitioner usually selects a variety of stones from many stones they are used to working with. Crystal healing practitioners build relationships with their stones, but almost all are always willing to bring in new or different stones for specific healing purposes. I seem to always use a lapis, clear quartz, and rough ruby. Not often, but every now and then, I use a very interesting piece of smoky quartz if I feel called to. Like other energy healings, crystal healing practitioners may have Spirit Guides who might tell them exactly what stones to use or what parts of the body need healing, and other healers rely on their intuition.
A great aspect of crystal healing is that you can be your own healer. You can visit rock shops and pick up many inexpensive healing stones. There is no need in the beginning to spend much money, clear quartz and inexpensive agates such as carnelian and many low cost jaspers are great healers. You can also find many healing stones outside, especially in or near a river. You will want to learn to ask the stone if it wants to work with you, so taking a weekend workshop on crystal healing is a great place to start. If the class material does not discuss how to know if a stone wants to work with, make sure to ask during the class. Amazon and other booksellers have many books on crystal healing. You probably don’t need to get the most basic book, since you have already learned the basics here. When picking out a book, read some reviews and get a book that described as intermediate or advanced. If there are some concepts you don’t understand, do a search on the internet. There will be thousands of resources for crystal healing and even more for all kinds of energy healing.

Chakra Healing: Nurturing the Energy Centers
Enter the ancient realm of chakra healing, rooted in traditions like Hinduism and Buddhism. This practice delves into the body’s energy centers, or chakras, each associated with specific aspects of physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Sound healing, crystal bowls, and color visualizations are often part of this exploration, enriching the journey of self-reflection and mindfulness.
You can find many free chakra healing resources all over the internet (e.g. on Youtube), such as meditations and music that guide you thru each chakra. LightworkerAscension.com also offers a chakra kit that is a combination of over a dozen stones, a chakra chart, and guided meditations that have you meet and work with a variety of Ascended Masters. This kit also introduces an additional chakra (a star chakra to bring in galactic energy) and new colors for the heart (red ruby) and root chakra (green malachite). With this type of energy healing, you can see that crystal healing also works very well. Acupuncture and other more physical healing modalities also help realign the body’s energy centers.
Beginning to work with your Chakras and Energy Centers is a great way to get started in metaphysics or to enhance your path. Once you find a clearing, cleansing, balance, and energy revitalization practice that appeals to you (e.g. a mediation), your chakra energy flow, and thus all of your body’s energy flow, will improve whether you believe it is happening or not. Your conscious engagement with your energy centers thru a meaningful practice (even if it is just five minutes) is enough to bring you great benefit.
Healing Thru Meditation and Mindfulness
New Age metaphysics often emphasizes meditation and mindfulness practices as a foundation for spiritual growth, stress reduction, and expanded consciousness. This is also a great place to start your metaphysical journey because you can find dozens free and very useful meditations and mindfulness techniques on the internet. Often a focus on Buddhist Mindfulness can be an amazing tool to use as a first step on your spiritual path because it is free and easy. I once had a Buddhist Rinpoche tell me that thinking positive thoughts will get you 99% of what you need to be enlightened. I believe it. But it can be hard to remain positive, to always be in the light, without some dedicated practice. Plus, you will want to find a community of some like minded souls to share your journey, and beginning to participate in spiritual and metaphysical events and classes is a great way to meet like minded (and very kind) people.
After reading the descriptions above about energy healing, and that energy knows where to go in your body, and the use of stones for specific ailments, some of you may have doubts any of this is true. That is fine, we don’t judge skepticism. Many advanced metaphysical healers initially had a strong desire for confirmation thru real-life experiences. Mindfulness is an ideal practice for metaphysical doubters because it will be very difficult to discount the benefits of practicing mindfulness once you get started. A bit of mindfulness or meditation might be all you need to connect with your true self and feel love. Give it a try, meditation can also be the best gateway to meeting your Spirit Guides.

Healing with The Law of Attraction: Manifest the Life You Want
Ever felt the gentle nudge of curiosity, wondering if your thoughts could shape the reality you experience? That’s the essence of the Law of Attraction—a concept that goes beyond mere positivity and negativity. For now, let’s dip our toes into the introductory waters of this intriguing idea.

Although the Law of Attraction isn’t exactly a healing-focused practice, we’ve nestled it into our metaphysical healing section. Why? Because it’s a practice of creating the life you want—one that’s remarkably accessible and potent, requiring no tools, classes, stones, or Spirit Animals.
If you’re ready to explore the Law of Attraction, we recommend delving into Esther Hicks’ videos on YouTube. Esther channels a being named Abraham, and together, they unfold the simplicity of the Law of Attraction Vortex. It’s not merely about maintaining positive thoughts; it’s about understanding the profound impact of your focused intentions. In Esther’s videos, real-life questions from everyday people like you emerge, addressing the challenges of staying within the ‘vortex’ of positive creative thought amidst the complexities of daily life.
Unlocking Mysteries: Diving into Sources of Metaphysical Information
In the vast realm of metaphysics, where mysteries abound and curiosity beckons, we’ve categorized practices into two realms: healing and information. In this section, let’s unravel a wee bit of the fascinating world of metaphysical practices that provide profound insights and knowledge.
Divination: Tarot and Other Intuitive Work
Delving into the mystical realms of divination opens doorways to profound self-discovery and spiritual insights. Among the myriad practices, Tarot stands as a venerable and widely embraced method, offering a visual language that transcends the boundaries of time and space. Tarot cards are like keys that unlock the portals of the subconscious. Modern practitioners often approach Tarot readings as a dynamic dialogue between the reader, the seeker, and the archetypal symbolism of the cards. Unlike rigid fortune-telling, Tarot serves as a reflective tool, inviting individuals to explore their inner landscapes, confront challenges, and unearth hidden potentials.
Holistic and metaphysical fairs provide a kaleidoscopic array of divination practices beyond Tarot. Visitors might encounter intuitive readers wielding tools like runes, dice, stones, bones, or even reading tea leaves. Each method carries its unique resonance, tapping into the reader’s intuition and spiritual connection to channel insights for seekers.
Some divination practices extend beyond traditional tools, venturing into the realm of Spirit Animals and unseen guides, such as Angels or Ascended Masters. Spirit animal readings offer a unique perspective, connecting individuals with animal allies that carry specific attributes and healing energies. This practice, often associated with shamanic traditions, provides a bridge between the mundane and the mystical.

Tarot readings have evolved beyond the realm of fortune-telling, transforming into a nuanced practice of self-reflection and spiritual exploration. Individuals, often known as readers, employ various spreads or layouts to extract meaning from the cards. From the classic Celtic Cross to custom-designed spreads, the arrangement of cards influences the depth and specificity of insights gained.
A psychic or intuitive reading with cards typically begins with the Seeker, or querent, shuffling the deck while focusing on their question or intention. The reader then draws cards, placing them in a predetermined pattern. Each card’s symbolism, position, and its relationship with neighboring cards contribute to the narrative unveiled. Readers may tap into their intuition, knowledge of traditional meanings, or a combination of both, fostering a dynamic dialogue between the cards and the individual’s energy.
Learning Tarot or another divination decks involves you blending of symbolism, intuition, and you personal connection with the cards. While mastering the intricacies of Tarot may seem daunting, numerous resources cater to beginners. Books, online courses, and local workshops guide enthusiasts through the fundamentals. Many find it helpful to start with the Rider-Waite deck due to its widespread use and abundant learning materials. Practice, patience, and a willingness to engage with the imagery on a personal level create an enchanted path for a deeper understanding. We recommend you find a local metaphysical store and ask if they have example decks you can look at. If you don’t have a nearby shop with a large variety of decks, go to the online Tarot collection at Isis Books in Denver. You don’t need to decide right away if you want a traditional Tarot deck or some other type of divination decks (spirit animals, angels, etc…), pick a deck that you find to be the most beautiful or intriguing. The way the images speak to you is very important. If you are taking a class in Tarot, then pick a Tarot deck, one that has the Major Arcana and the suit cards. If you find another type of divination deck is more appealing, try to pick one that is a ‘combo’ pack with it’s own how-to-interpret book.

However, for the foreseeable future, Tarot is the Queen of divination techniques. It would be very difficult to find someone who is not aware of Tarot. We have a wonderful song from Cher and hundreds of images in movies and TV that have depicted many candle lit parlors reader dressed in flowing, mystical attire, beckoning the innocent to her table.
Tarot is the Queen for some very good reasons. The Major Arcana in a Tarot deck plays a significant and distinctive role in an intuitive reading, bringing depth, symbolism, and profound archetypal energies to a reading. Consisting of 22 cards, these trump cards stand apart from the Minor Arcana, which comprises the King thru Ace suited cards (Cups, Wands, Swords, and Pentacles). The Major Arcana cards often represent powerful life events, spiritual lessons, and fundamental shifts in consciousness, and thus a deck with Major Arcana (e.g. Tarot and not the non-Tarot divination decks) are structured to provide ready insight to major life events and influences.
Today’s metaphysical shops boast a vast array of Tarot, Oracle, and other divination cards, because each deck is a unique expression of artistic and symbolic interpretation. The Rider-Waite Tarot, with its iconic imagery, serves as a foundational deck, widely embraced for its accessibility and traditional symbolism. Modern decks like the Thoth Tarot, Osho Zen, and Morgan Greer offer innovative perspectives, infusing the ancient practice with contemporary flair. The popularity of these decks attests to the diversity of interpretations seekers can explore. One of my favorites is the Navigators of the Mystic Sea.

Astrology
Astrology is the understanding of the energetic influence of celestial bodies (mainly planets) and their positions to other planets and stars at the exact time you were born. A deep and rich value of astrology comes when you examine the relationships between these ‘natal’ planets where they transit to over time. Planets in the Milky Way are constantly orbiting around the Sun and creating different angles to not only the Sun and the different planets, but also creating different angles to where the Sun and the planets were when you were born (birth chart -> transiting chart). You can find many free astrology resources on the internet (e.g. search for Free Natal Chart), that will have some basic pre-written summary of some key aspects of your Sun sign, rising sign, houses, etc… This can be useful for you to understand some of the energetic archetypes in your life. This can be somewhat like a Myers –Briggs personality test to help explain some of your patterned behaviors or reactions or the behaviors of others.

Most people know their Sun sign, which is the constellation the Sun was in when they were born (e.g. Leo or Taurus. You also have a Moon sign, which is the constellation the Moon was in when you were born. You have a sign for each planet, because every planet was in a constellation when you were born. There are twelve astrological signs and each correspond to a specific star constellation. You also have a rising sign, which is the constellation that was on the horizon when you were born. If you know when and where you were born, you can create a chart of all of planets in their specific sign, and laid out in a circle in twelve even slices (the houses), with your rising sign being the ruler of your first house. This is your natal chart. This chart also shows relationships (geometric angles between the different planets/constellations in your chart. For example two planets very close to each other are called conjunct and two planets on the opposite side of your chart, are called, well, oppositions. Often oppositions are viewed as a more difficult or challenging energy, where as conjunct or trine (at 120 degrees to each other) point to a potentially more positive amplifying or harmonious energy. Astrology becomes even more valuable when you compare your natal chart, which is fixed, with where the planets are in another point in time. Because the planets have moved since your birth, you can overlay their new position on your natal chart and again examine the energy in new trines, oppositions, etc…
In my opinion, because of the complexity of the dozens and dozens of planetary relationships, the meaning of the houses, and each planet’s ruler, the real value of astrology can only come thru a reading with a professional astrologer. We haven’t gone into detail about the planets’ rulers, who have their specific attributes, or the Water, Fire, and Earth aspects of twelve signs of the Zodiac, or that some are fixed, mutable, or cardinal! Let’s say for example you create your natal chart and a chart of current planetary transits, and you teach yourself astrology even quite a bit beyond the basics. If you are not paying attention to everything else going on in astrology, e.g. Pluto entering Aquarius in January 2024, you may miss some very important meta-astrological events. So even though I know a fair amount about astrology and find it a very useful tool, it is far too complex and dynamic for me to keep up with on my own. Thus I recommend you find an experienced astrologer, someone who is a lifelong learner of astrology. I have a couple friends who are astrologers, and I find that they are very good intuitives, although their description of the energies in your chart will usually be spoken about in astrological terms.
You can get a variety of different astrological readings. Usually the first is a reading of your natal chart, then a reading of transits or progressions. I also like Astrocartography, which maps the planets’ positions (e.g. rising or setting) when you were born to map of the world. This Astrocart shows thin lines of planetary influence stretching from the north to south poles. Areas of the planet close to one of these lines have a strong influence of that planet’s attributes, and if lines cross (e.g. two planets in the same area), you may have a very special power spot! You can also get financial, Vedic, medical, and Shamanic astrology readings.

Metaphysical channeling and spiritual mediumship, though distinct, share a common thread—the pursuit of spiritual understanding and connection. Channeling, with its focus on celestial beings and universal wisdom, offers insights into life’s purpose, cosmic truths, and the broader tapestry of existence. Mediumship, on the other hand, delves into the personal realm, providing solace, healing, and the reassurance that life transcends the boundaries of the physical. Together, these practices create a harmonious synergy, weaving a narrative that spans the celestial and the personal, offering seekers a comprehensive understanding of their spiritual journey.
For those drawn to metaphysical pursuits, both channeling and mediumship offer invaluable tools for personal growth and enlightenment. Channeling provides cosmic perspectives, enabling individuals to navigate life with divine guidance and purpose. Mediumship, on the emotional forefront, aids in healing grief, offering closure, and fostering a sense of connection with the departed. The combined wisdom from both practices allows seekers to access profound insights into their spiritual path, unveiling layers of understanding that transcend the physical realm.
Embarking on the Journey: Learning Mediumship and Channeling
Aspiring metaphysical practitioners can embark on a transformative journey of learning and self-discovery. Numerous resources, from reputable books to online courses, delve into the intricacies of channeling and mediumship. Developing a daily practice of meditation and energy work lays the foundation, enhancing intuitive faculties and attuning to higher frequencies. Seekers may also find guidance from experienced mentors or spiritual communities, fostering a supportive environment for growth. Embracing these practices with respect, humility, and an open heart unlocks the potential to become a conduit for divine wisdom or a messenger between realms—a path illuminated by the profound magic of metaphysical exploration.
Unveiling the Mysteries: Metaphysical Channeling and Spiritual Mediumship
Metaphysical Channeling: Bridging Realms Through Divine Messages
Metaphysical channeling serves as an ethereal bridge, connecting individuals with higher realms and spiritual entities. A metaphysical channel, often acting as a conduit for divine energies, taps into the cosmic flow to relay messages, wisdom, and insights. The channel may connect with a range of entities, from angels and spirit guides to ascended masters or even extraterrestrial beings. The process involves entering an altered state of consciousness, achieved through meditation, deep focus, or rituals, allowing the channel to attune to frequencies beyond the mundane. The intention behind channeling varies: seeking guidance, gaining clarity, or simply serving as a vessel for profound spiritual truths. The essence lies in the channel’s ability to surrender, allowing the information to flow through them, transcending the limitations of ordinary perception.
Spiritual Mediumship: Echoes from the Other Side
In the vast array of metaphysical practices, spiritual mediumship stands as a portal to the afterlife, where communication with departed souls becomes a sacred art. A spiritual medium, armed with heightened intuitive abilities, establishes a connection with the spirit realm. This connection may unfold through clairvoyance (seeing spirits), clairaudience (hearing spirit voices), or clairsentience (feeling spirit presences). Mediums serve as messengers, delivering messages, insights, or even closure from loved ones who have transitioned to the beyond. The process requires receptivity, discernment, and ethical responsibility to ensure the purity and authenticity of the messages transmitted. Mediums often work within a sacred space, invoking protective energies and setting intentions to facilitate clear, loving, and respectful communication with the departed.

When preparing for an Akashic Records reading, consider asking questions that are focused on personal growth, life purpose, and healing. Approach these readings as an experience that will benefit your soul’s purpose. Sometime you need information to help you understand your lifepath and other times you need healing. Examples include inquiries about significant relationships, life lessons, and the most aligned path for spiritual evolution. Open-ended questions that allow for a broad exploration of the soul’s journey are particularly effective.
Akashic Records
The Akashic Records are a metaphysical source of information about every soul’s journey, past, present, and future. Practitioners access these records through meditation or other techniques such as an opening prayer. People who want to work with the Akashic Records often seek access for personal and spiritual growth, understanding past-life experiences, and gaining insights into their current life challenges. They may inquire about specific events, relationships, or patterns in their lives to gain a deeper understanding of their purpose and lessons. I have had sessions with two very gifted Akashic readers\healers who not only helped me understand past-life experiences but also to understand future-life experience. Remember that time, per se, does not exist, so you can easily go into the past or the future with an adept Akashic reader. Why not consider learning from your future self what worked to get to a more advanced spiritual level?
In my opinion, the Akash is probably one of the most misunderstood metaphysical tools, but it can be one of the most valuable. I still struggle to understand what it is, and I probably have more of an idea of what it is not. What I do know from being at Holistic Fairs recently is that people saying they read the Akashic records is like so many people calling themselves Reiki Masters. Anyone can take a weekend class or two and get a piece of paper stating they are a certified Akashic reader, Shaman, or Reiki master, but that does mean that they are. It does not mean that they are not, and many very good practitioners started that way. Be choosy.

Shamanic Practices: Unraveling the Core Techniques
Shamanism is another rich, diverse, and deep area of metaphysics that is both healing and informing. Originating from traditional indigenous cultures, shamanic practices are often incorporated into New Age metaphysics. This includes shamanic journeying, soul retrieval, and connecting with spirit or power animals. Many cultures have long and established traditions of tribal Shamans performing a wide variety of healing and other ceremonies. Shamanic work in those cultures is sacred and honored.
Shamans in Siberia and central Asia often use drumming and chanting to get into altered states to perform rituals that invoke spirits for healing and guidance. Some Native Americans use sweat lodges, vision quests, and sacred plants. In the Amazon, some tribes use plant medicines for their healing and divination ceremonies. Africa is rich with diverse shamanic ritual and ceremonies that often honor ancestors and involve trance dancing. Indigenous Australians have a spiritual tradition known as Dreamtime where ancestral spirits created the land and continue to influence it.

Spirit or Power Animals
As you have probably seen from this website, I work with Spirit Animals. Many people don’t realize they have had one or more Spirit Animals with them since birth or that they can invite in Spirit Animals at any time. They are similar in ways to Angels, in that they have specific attributes and healing (often called medicine). For example, in the Angelic Realm you can call upon the Archangel Michael for protection. Badger is the Spirit Animal that can provide you with protection. You simply ‘call’ on Badger by asking outloud or in your mind’s voice for Badger’s help. Maybe you find yourself in an unfamiliar setting and feel a bit uneasy, say something like: “I ask that Badger’s help and protection come to me now.” Badger is about more than protection because Badger wants you to be happy and fulfilled.
All Spirit Animals want you to be more connected to Spirit, and often with connection to Spirit is more happiness and fulfillment. If you ask Badger will continue to help you. When I started the Animal Spirit section of my website, I sat with over 60 animals and asked them what they wanted to help people with. Badger said: “Ask me for protection from negative energies then take some chances, move forwards with something you have been thinking about but had fear or concerns.”
Of course I have A LOT more to say about Power Animals, so I wrote “Working with Spirit Animals”.

Shamanic Journeys: Gateway to Different Worlds
As mentioned above, modern Shamanic Journeys are trance induced states where you experience mystical worlds. The Shamanic journey is an ancient and transformative practice deeply ingrained in diverse cultures worldwide. Rooted in the belief that alternative spiritual dimensions hold profound insights and healing, this mystical journey allows individuals to traverse non-ordinary realities, seeking guidance, wisdom, and soul-level transformation.
Typically induced by rhythmic drumming, chanting, or other ritualistic techniques, the Shamanic journey begins as participants enter an altered state of consciousness. This altered state, akin to a meditative trance, opens a doorway to realms beyond the ordinary, where spirit guides, totem animals, and other ethereal entities reside. You can take your own Shamanic Journeys or a Shamanic practitioner can take a journey to bring you healing or information. The journeyer embarks on an inner exploration, navigating landscapes that symbolize aspects of both their subconscious and spiritual realms. Journeys can be very short or last for hours and hours in some cultures. Most modern Shamanic journeys are twenty to forty minutes.
Once you get into a trance and enter one of these realms, these new worlds are not so mystical. They seem and are very real. Sometimes, when you hear someone else describe their journey, you may feel that what they saw was fantastical, such as a talking Skunk. But when you are experiencing one of these journeys for yourself, it seems quite real. Some people see entire scenes enfolding in front of them during a journey, and others hear or sense what is happening. Your ability to remember what you see and sense, is similar to the trance induced by a good hypnotist. Your conscious mind is very aware of what is happening in the alternate reality you are in, and not so aware of the real world you started from. When you come out of a Shamanic journey or from hypnosis, it may take a minute to become reoriented, but once you do, you will remember many details from your journey (for a few minutes at least), so make sure to write down what you experienced. It takes practice to become good at doing Shamanic Journeys, but there is a lot of beginning guidance to get started. We recommended some of the CDs from Sandra Ingerman (SandraIngerman.com). Her website is a great resource because you can also find Shamanic teachers and practitioners in your area.

During a Shamanic journey, participants may encounter a variety of symbolic visions, archetypal images, or interactions with spirit beings, especially Spirit Animals. These encounters are usually personal and tailored to the individual’s needs. Spirit Animals, ancestral guides, and mythical figures may appear, and offer wisdom and guidance. The landscapes visited range from lush forests to expansive deserts, and from underwater worlds to off-planet crystal light castles, each holding significance for the journeyer.
Shamans in different cultures and some modern Shamanic practitioners enhance their journeys and other techniques with plant medicine such as peyote and ayahuasca. These plants are becoming recognized more and more as having the potential to help people heal in ways that are difficult to achieve any other way. These types of experiences are often very intense and thus require a much more safe and controlled setting that the common drum-trance Shamanic journey. In addition to finding reputable and experienced practitioners whose work it is to facilitate these types of journeys, because of drug laws, anyone contemplating using plant medicines must have an understanding of the very restrictive drug laws in North America.
Embarking on a Shamanic journey requires nothing more than openness, intention, and ideally a safe, undisturbed space. Beginners may find guided drumming recordings helpful, because they provide a steady rhythm to induce the trance state. You can also drum for yourself or join someone else who is drumming for your or a group. Setting a clear intention before the journey enhances its purpose. As the journey progresses, participants should trust their instincts and allow the experience to unfold organically. Recording the journey in a journal afterward will help you remember the journey and provide a rich experiential history you can use later for reflection and integration.
Examples of Shamanic Journeys
I usually journey to the lower world which, for me, is rich and vibrant with many Spirit Animals. I start by going deep into the Earth via a small opening near a huge Saguaro cactus, jumping into a volcano, or diving into watery depths from a high waterfall. When I re-emerge from my jumping off point, I am usually my general physical self, but sometimes I am just my light body. I then sit by a fire and wait for animals or other spirits to gather. I thank them for coming because I feel their love and willingness to help. Then I get up and start the work I came to do. Intention is important when you journey. You can journey just for fun, e.g. to say hi to your helper spirits, but you usually have a goal to heal or you journey to retrieve information. One journey I take every now and then is to one of the bays somewhere on the planet. I go underwater and work with Clam. I see many clams, hundreds of clams bring water into their body, lots and lots of water specifically to filter out toxins such as lead and mercury. I see and feel the water getting clearer. If I do not see this happening, I make sure to imagine it. Imagination is just as valuable (if not more) than seeing. Then after a bit, I call in Pleidians star beings and ask them to go to each clam and take away its toxins. Because these star beings are very advanced, they are able to compact and compress these heavy metals until they transmute into nothing but a small burst of energy.

In essence, the Shamanic journey is a sacred exploration of the inner and spiritual realms, a doorway to self-discovery, healing, and communion with the unseen forces that shape our existence. As more individuals rediscover the power of this ancient practice, the Shamanic journey continues to weave its threads into the tapestry of contemporary metaphysical exploration.

Soul Retrieval
During a soul retrieval session, the Shamanic practitioner enters a shamanic trance state, often induced through rhythmic drumming, chanting, or other techniques. In this altered state, the practitioner journeys to non-ordinary reality, where time is fluid and spiritual energies are accessible. Guided by spirit allies, the practitioner seeks out the lost soul fragments of the individual. These soul parts may manifest as symbolic representations or embody specific emotions related to the past trauma.
Once the fragmented soul pieces are located, a process of negotiation and healing begins. The Shamanic practitioner communicates with these soul parts, to understand their experiences and reasons for dissociation. Through ritual, energy work, and the guidance of spirit allies, the shaman facilitates the return of these soul fragments to the individual. This reunion often brings about a profound sense of healing, restoring a person’s vitality, resilience, and a renewed connection with their authentic self.
In another scenario, a person recovering from a serious illness might feel a sense of spiritual disconnection. In the shamanic trance state, the healer could identify soul fragments associated with the trauma of illness. By facilitating the return of these fragments, the shaman helps the individual regain strength, vitality, and a deeper sense of purpose in their life.
Shamanic Soul Retrieval, with its roots in ancient wisdom, continues to offer profound healing in the modern world, providing individuals with a pathway to reclaim and reintegrate lost aspects of their soul for a more balanced and vibrant existence.

Stuck Energy and Entity Removal
Although different practitioners, such as Witches, can perform entity and stuck energy removal, I am more familiar with the Shamanic practice. Stuck energy removal is usually a fairly routine healing session for an experienced healer. Modern shamanic energy healing involves perceiving and manipulating subtle energies that flow within and around an individual. These energies, often referred to as life force or chi, can become stagnant or disrupted, leading to physical, emotional, or spiritual imbalances. The practitioner, attuned to these energetic patterns, uses various techniques to clear blockages, disperse negative energy, and restore the natural flow within the energy body.
Stuck energy, remnants of emotional trauma, negative thought patterns, or external influences, can impede an individual’s overall well-being. Modern shamanic practitioners perceive these blockages as areas of dense, stagnant energy. The removal of stuck energy involves intuitive assessment, guided visualization, and energy manipulation to dislodge and release these impediments. Clients often report a sense of lightness, clarity, and improved vitality following such sessions.

Entity removal, is an advanced and nuanced aspect of Shamanic healing that addresses the presence of energetic entities or attachments. These entities can range from residual energies of past experiences to more complex, self-aware entities. Shamanic practitioners, equipped with spiritual discernment, communicate with these energies and guide them to a place of resolution, often transitioning them to the light or a realm where they can find peace. Tools employed in modern shamanic energy healing and entity removal vary. Crystals, herbs, sacred sounds, and ritualistic practices amplify the practitioner’s ability to connect with the other realms. The intuitive guidance of spirit allies, such as Power Animals or ancestral guides, assists in the discernment of energetic disturbances.
Most problematic or draining energies are not fully conscious entities; instead they are lost or stuck energy fragments. Sometimes you allow these energy fragments to stay because of nostalgia, grief, shame, or other lower vibrational emotions. Getting this type of healing from a Shamanic practitioner is a good idea, because sometimes they can tell you more about the energies. You don’t need to know anything about the energies for them to be successfully removed, but if you know more about these energies, you may be able to prevent them in the future. If you don’t feel compelled to find a healer to help you with this you can also use the intentional gesture of using a sword and ‘cutting’ energy cords around your entire body.
There are some people who have negative entities in or around them. Some experienced Shamanic practitioners are gifted in entity removal. We don’t come across this very often, but if after a session or two of energy clearing and removal, cutting cords, etc… you still feel out of sorts, depressed, or have a general sense of unease, fatigue, or being lost, a full on entity removal might be a good choice for you. For soul retrievals and especially for entity removal, it is very important that you find a reputable Shamanic practitioner. A good place to start is Sandra Ingerman’s Shamanic teachers resource page at https://www.shamanicteachers.com/. Contact one of these teachers in your area and ask them who they feel would be good healer for entity removal.
Shamanic Energy Healing Examples
Consider an individual grappling with persistent anxiety despite conventional interventions. A shamanic practitioner may detect an energetic block in their solar plexus, representing unprocessed emotions. Through guided visualization and energy work, the practitioner assists in releasing these emotions, resulting in a profound alleviation of anxiety.
In another scenario, an individual experiences recurring nightmares, suggesting possible energetic interference. A shamanic practitioner, using their skills, may identify and communicate with the disruptive entity, facilitating its peaceful transition and bringing relief to the individual.
In the realm of modern shamanic practices, the removal of stuck energy and entities stands as a transformative journey, fostering not just healing but also a deeper connection to the unseen forces that shape our existence. As practitioners and seekers alike continue to explore these ancient arts, the path to spiritual harmony remains open for those willing to tread its mystical terrain.

In some Native American traditions, death ceremonies involve chanting, drumming, and rituals to assist the soul in releasing its earthly ties and embracing the journey ahead. In most traditions, including modern traditions the Shamanic practitioner is also a real-life person who provides comfort and guidance to not only the dying but also to their friends and family. It may be possible for the header to narrate the soul’s crossing over in terms of the love, light, and reunions that the see or sense happening in real time.
In addition to the Rainbow Bridge, examples from other cultures illustrate how Shamans and healers assist in the transition from life to death. In ancient Egyptian traditions, the Book of the Dead guides souls through the challenges of the afterlife. Tibetan Buddhism incorporates the Bardo Thodol, known as the Tibetan Book of the Dead, as a guide for navigating the intermediate states after death. These examples highlight a near universal acknowledgment that spiritual guidance is valuable for a soul’s smooth passage into the next phase of existence. Because in the Shamanic worldview, death is not an end but a rebirth into a different state of being. Embracing death as a natural and cyclical part of existence, Shamanic perspectives on death, dying, and rebirth offer solace, understanding, and a profound connection to the cosmic dance of life’s eternal rhythms.
Death, Dying, and Coming Back: A Shamanic Perspective
Shamanic practitioners have a different view of death than most of contemporary society. The journey of death, dying, and rebirth unfolds as a profound and sacred dance with the cosmic forces. Far beyond the mere cessation of physical life, Shamans view death as a transition—a passage of the soul into realms unseen. Sometimes that transition has a stop-over in other realms before the soul reincarnates, and those stop-overs are the most loving of all experiences. At the heart of this perspective lies a deep understanding that death is not an endpoint but a threshold to be crossed, and the shamanic journey guides individuals through this transformative process.
Some Shamanic cultures envision the transition from life to afterlife as traversing a metaphorical “Rainbow Bridge.” This bridge connects the earthly realm to the spiritual dimensions, offering a pathway for the departing soul to cross into the unseen realms. Anchored in Norse mythology and echoed in various indigenous traditions, the Rainbow Bridge symbolizes the interconnectedness of all existence and the fluidity between life and death. Some Shamanic traditions, and in our own work, Jaguar holds a prominent place as a guardian of the Rainbow Bridge. We invoke Jaguar’s spirit to guide souls across the Rainbow Bridge and into the realms of their next experience. With its prowess in navigating both the seen and unseen, Jaguar serves as a potent ally for those in the liminal space of death. With Jaguar, the Shamanic practitioner becomes a psychopomp to escort the departing soul, ensuring a safe journey into the afterlife.

Star Beings and Galactics
One of the fastest growing areas of metaphysics the past several years has been the understanding of the connection that many of us have with Star Beings. It could be we are all Star Seeds. We have more and more reliable sightings every day and more uncovered information of many governments working with advanced Galactic beings.
Personally I feel most connected to star beings from Sirius, but I work more with Pleiadians and Arcturians. Because I can also channel some of these beings, I will ask if one of them would like me to post a message here. I have a few Spirit Animals messages to catch up on, so look for a message late winter 2024.

Other Valuable Metaphysical Practices
Numerology examines the mystical significance of numbers. You can use numerology to interpret the influence of numbers on your life path, personality, and relationships. Numerology readings are often insightful and thought provoking, as a tool to supplement your understanding of the potential energies around you.
Sacred geometry explores the symbolic and spiritual significance of geometric shapes and patterns, which have inherent vibrational qualities. Because of the cultural use of different shapes, some shapes have the extra energy of their inherent shape vibration and the added energy that a culture has added to it over time. In our jewelry we use a lot of triangles for stones and circles for silver. We feel those shapes bring some of their own extra energy to a piece.
Sound healing is another amazing metaphysical practice. You can start with a single singing bowl and then add more sounds, percussion, strings, tuning forks…anything and everything. Sound healing is great choice for healing because there are dozens of very gifted healing musicians that have create beautiful healing music, and who doesn’t love music? You can still buy entire CDs or just download a single inexpensive track. For people interested in a mindfulness practice but who have difficulty meditating, a nice piece of healing music can more easily bring much relaxation, joy, and healing.

Final Thoughts…
Thank you for reading some of my thoughts and feelings about some of the more valuable and accessible metaphysical practices. Because of my work with Spirit Animals and other Shamanic practices, I favor those and see great richness and value in expanding your metaphysical horizons in that direction. I know for sure that in the next few years I will buy at least one Akashic and one Astrology reading. Personally, I like information, and although I feel so much love and so much healing from my Spirit Animals and other guides, sometimes it is a good to check in with another professional and get a different perspective.
